This project began with a client who had a bold vision – one that had been turned away by 20 other companies. She dreamed of a homestead kitchen that would be a true homage to her Australian roots, grounded in raw, authentic materials that carried history and soul. For Creative Director Katie Lusty, this was exactly the kind of challenge Elementi Cucina was built for – a chance to push boundaries, celebrate craft, and tell a story through design.

The result is a space that is both tactile and meaningful. Industrial galvanised steel panels set the tone, inspired by the rugged character of outback architecture, while robust concrete worktops and floors bring weight and permanence to the design. A wall of antique mirror glass softens the raw materials with a touch of vintage glamour and dynamic reflections.

Perhaps the most defining feature is the bespoke joinery – doors crafted from reclaimed Scottish school floorboards, complete with original ink stains and framed in mild steel. Every imperfection tells a story, creating a living connection to the past. Functional details like custom wood chopping blocks are integrated into the island, a nod to traditional craftsmanship and the client’s love for hands-on cooking and hosting.

Behind the artistry lies performance: Sub-Zero & Wolf appliances deliver seamless functionality, ensuring that this striking space works as hard as it inspires.

This kitchen is more than a design – it’s a narrative. It celebrates heritage, individuality, and the creative risk of doing things differently. The bold vision paid off: in 2023, it was named Kitchen Design of the Year by KBB Review, a testament to its originality, craftsmanship, and refusal to compromise.
